First attempt - got a rooster!

My daughter decided raising chickens (for eggs) was a good project for her animal science class and since he dad didn't seem to mind and the city doesn't have laws against it, we said yes!
Since I didn't know exactly what I was doing, 79 cents sounded like a good deal when we bought the straight run RIRs. We only bought 2 and 1 is a roo! He's been trying to crow the last week - sounds like a cross between a baby's cry and a lamb's baa. I don't think it will be long before we get a real crow out of him! While one neighbor said she'd be fine with it, I don't think the rest of them will be very happy! Besides, we don't want a rooster with the layers!
I'm in Meridian, ID - anyone interested in an 8-10 week old Rhode Island Red Rooster? He's free to a good home.
Some have suggested "disposing" of him, but if I can find a home for him, we would all be much happier.

For the record - I learned my lesson - we bought another 4 chickens and paid the higher price for pullets.

Too bad I'm so far away--we just lost our wonderful RIR flock rooster and I'd take yours in a heartbeat.

we can't keep roosters either. And even always buying pullets, we do get a few roosters. Ask at your local feed store- our town has a local farmer that takes everyone's roosters! Hope you're loving your chickies!

Update - a friend from church cheerfully let us put our RIR rooster with her hens and roosters. Poor thing had quite an introduction. First, the bird dog chased him and took out a few tail feathers. When he recovered from that stress the big rooster decided to make sure he knew who was boss - it was pretty funny watching him chase ours around the property. Then one of the younger hens started flirting with him...he fluffed up and strutted his stuff for her. As we were leaving, the other rooster was chasing him again! They'll figure it out! Now we're back down to 6 hens (2-RIR, 2-Americauna, and 2 - White Leghorn).
