I have 6 of my own then Charlie, her last litter of 2 boys (soon to be neutered) and her new baby. That's TEN cats to feed. It's worth it though.

Those Mustaches are so cute! Im going through the same thing right now. We have one cat at my grandma's that is spayed, and came to use spayed. Last year, a cat (Not ours, a stray) had 4 kittens in the woodpile. When they were old enough, she left them and we still have two of them. One boy and one girl. The girl was super pregnant last week and she came back a few days ago super skinny. My mom told me they arent my responsibility so I cant get them fixed, but we feed them. What's up with that? Im finding those kittens and they ARE getting fixed. They can stay here and be mousers, but Im not going to have a million cats. Beautiful momma and baby though. Good Job helping out the unwanted.

Trisha - great pics and what a sweet baby. But that mama has to have been somebody's pet. No way that cat was always feral or it wouldn't let you handle it or pet it or handle the baby. I'm thinking it was a pet someone dropped off or it wandered off in heat or while pregnant. If so, it will have a hard time surviving because it isn't feral and can't fend for itself. No feral cat in it's right mind would be sitting there posing for pics with you petting it. Maybe she's adoptable. I'm betting you will find she's very friendly.

Southern, you are doing a wonderful thing and will be blessed. Charlie is such a beauty and it is evident that she is already thriving under your care. My Toby was semi-feral when he showed up at the edge of our woods last summer. He was starving, really just a rack of bones with what seemed to be at the time an over-sized head. And his hair was coarse and falling out. It took me weeks to even get close enough to touch him and then weeks more to get him into a carrier so I could get him to the vet. Every time I would think he trusted me enough, he seemed to sense that I was plotting something bad and would head straight to the woods. My husband kept saying "Don't feed that cat" and "We're not keeping that cat", but he finally was won over and was the one who actually named Toby.

I finally got Toby to the vet and, unbelievably, he didn't have any of the feline diseases that I expected. He was just wormy and had a bad case of ear mites. Now he is the most loving cat in the world. He greets me every morning by jumping into my lap and putting his paws up on my shoulders just like he's giving me a hug and thanks me for saving his life by rubbing his face on mine. His way of kissing, I suppose. He's a real porker now! I guess they never forget that they were once starving. And his hair is as soft as a rabbit's fur.

Here's a pic of Toby:

She may have been someone's pet in the past. She's been living on my property for 2 years now. She has 2 adult sons living here too.

When she first started coming around she wouldn't let me even look at her or she would take off.

I've worked with another feral colony before, about 2 years ago they lived by a pond in Raleigh. The alfa female was crazy. She'd hiss and swat and anyone who came near her. I started feeding her and getting her to trust me. By the time I was done with them I could pick her up and hug her and I got her spayed.

So I know a feral can be tamed it just takes time and love. I have pictures of her posing for the camera too but I have to be at work in an hour and don't have time to upload them.

I agree totally. A feral cat would not be this way. That cat looks adoptable to me too. By the time you are done loving it, it wont be fir for the stray life anymore. Anyway, looks like they found a great loving care taker til they get forever homes

I took Charlie to the vet the other day to check on her pregnancy. The vet estimated Charlie's age to be around 2-3 years. Last spring Charlie had a litter and this is only her second pregnany.

Charlie MAY have been someone's kitten at one point but if I've seen her for 2 years living in my woods and she's only 2-3 years old....she may not be "feral" but she is wild as can be.

Anyway the point of this thread was to show the cute kitten.

Hi Trisha - don't get upset - no one's arguing with you. Just trying to say that any cat that is sitting at your feet, posing for pics, and letting you pet it and "hug" it is adoptable and probably best fit to be a pet again instead of going back to the life of a stray.

Is there a no kill shelter near you or can you put flyers up in grocery stores or a free ad in local paper? Someone may take both - mama and baby - kind of has a cuter appeal.

oh I think that is so wonderful - what you are doing for them - and like you said every little bit helps. Do you think the mommy wil be tame enough after a few weeks of TLC from you that you can find her a home also? I bet she would make a wonderful house cat.

I have to say that pic 2 - looks like one of those " GOT MILK " ads -
