My Barred Rock is 5 months old to the day and what a surprise to find and egg in with what we still call the "baby birds"! I haven't yet combined them in with the older birds as I need to cull a few out to free up some coop real estate.
I adopted two chicks at 2 weeks old, not knowing gender or breed with any real certainty. Was told I had a 75% chance of them both being roosters. No question now that one is a pullet! I'm so proud of her! Amazingly, this first egg is nearly the same size as the 10 month old wyandotte's.
