First batch of Cornish started!

Rest assured, they won't be taking off anywhere. Waddling, maybe but they don't know the meaning of taking off. Mine are seven weeks old and I've just let them hang out under the lemon tree the whole time. They move in about a 20 foot area from the lemon tree. The only trouble they ever cause is digging holes around the corn, trying to find cool spots. Otherwise, if it weren't for me separating the food and water about ten feet under the trees, they probably wouldn't make much attempt to move at all.

Yes, they are so cute now, wait till they start eating and pooping a ton lol. We are happy with ours so far. This is our first batch and we process in 2 weeks.

I am actually amazed at the amount of poop these little guys make compared to the batch of chicks I raised in early spring that are layers. The shavings are soaked and caked in one day in the brooder where I could let it go up to 3 days with the same number of laying chicks. Interesting it certainly is ..... hubby also says they smell more - wonder why??

Tell hubby that if he ate and drank all day long he would smell more too!

I have 47 chicks in a 5x10 brooder (petitioned off part of my main coop because I couldn't handle them in my basement again) and sprinkled the floor with DE and then put my pine bedding down. I stir the bedding every single day and I'm amazed at how much drier and less stinky I'm able to keep it this time. They will go to the tractor hopefully sometime next week (if I can get my hubby moving on it).

Chicken tractor is complete and the chicks are almost two weeks old! They are growing fast but we are waiting on more feathers to move them outdoors. Will post a picture of them later today. They started out at less than 2 ounces and at one week they were 5 1/2 ounces (average) - curious to see what they will weigh after the weekend - they turn 2 weeks Monday.
