first batch of cornishX! what are your top 3 tips?!

'The ACV with mother speeds the process up and ensures you have the correct bugs in there from the start. There are alternatives mentioned in the thread - I think I'll try kefir next time.'

Hi Island Roo, I live in Cobble Hill and was interested to see you were thinking of using kefir in this post. I am using ACV from apples I juiced from my tree. 1) Can you use both ACV and kefir in the same FF? and 2) where in Duncan/ Cowichan valley can I get kefir at a reasonable price or trade? I have a kombucha scoby I would be happy to trade for some kefir grains.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

ok guys, they are in today!
i gave them about a cup of fermented feed (with kefir), water and a heat lamp.

should i feed them again before bed?

If they're hungry - feed them.
My chicks have food 24 hours a day for the first couple weeks.
Good luck!

ACV and Kefir should do the same thing - no harm in doing both. But no need to.
Sounds like an interesting trade but I have no kefir grains. The only Kefir I've seen for sale is the little bottle drinks at Thrifties. Let me know if you find the grains somewhere.
I think some folks on the FF thread were discussing kombucha as well - not sure if anyones tried it in FF.

at what age would you put them outside? if the weather is nice and sunny, could i put them out now at 3 days? with a cover to protect from hawks of course.
