First bob white quail hatched FINALLY

Our quails were suppose to hatch LAST Wednesday, they have been on lockdown since Last Sunday. One finally hatched this AM (our very first) and need some advice.

How long before he/she will need water?? I have put a chick waterer in the box with stones in it, but we can't get the baby to drink yet.

If she is the only one to hatch, then what? Will she be okay by herself?? Right now she is only satisfied in my son's hands up against his body.

How long before we will need to get her to eat?

We have hatched chicks in the past, but we haven't had anything this small, even our bantams that we got at TSC last spring were bigger than this little thing.

They should be taught to drink when you put them in the brooder. Either carefully dip their beaks in the water or tap the water with your finger until they get curious and investigate. You may have to do the same with food. Quail chicks can go for the first 24 hours after hatch just fine (they absorb the yolk for their first nutrition) but after that they'll need food and water.

What about the other eggs? I have heard that it can be 15 days before they all hatch, is that right??

Also, will he/she be okay with no other chicks (if the rest of the eggs don't hatch)?

By the way, she is eating and drinking and pooping. LOL She still has issues with the water, maybe the red marbles, don't know.

Coturnix should hatch between day 17-19 but can take as long as 23. bobwhites usually hatch between day 22-24 with stragglers being as late as day 26.
