Twenty days ago I move my first broody hen on 15 eggs. I left her completely alone with the exception of filling her food and water dishes. Today I decided to check the eggs and see if there was anything happening. I was shocked, surprised and oh so happy to see a little wet chick stumbling about. I let mama be and checked her this evening while locking up my flock. When I lifted her up I saw two little fluffy butts. I also noticed a cracked egg but didn't inspect closely enough to determine if it was actually hatching or got broken. I really love the ease of a broody hen; no egg turning, no temperature adjustments or humidity monitoring - just set it and forget it.

Here is a picture of mama and her current babies.

Very sweet picture. Thank you for sharing. Congrats on the good report. (You might submit this picture for pic of the week, it is a good one.

Mama came off her nest today with 12 little cuties. Mama has successfully hatched 12 of 15 eggs. Of the 3 remaining eggs: one died early on, one failed to pip and one pipped but the egg got damaged and it died.

Pictures will follow sometime today!
