Hi all - I've been out for a while - lots of living going on.

Anyway - I've hatched lots of chicks in the home built incubator but this is the first broody we've actually had.

So it took us a while to realize she was broody - maybe a week went buy before we decided it was real. I stuffed 5 eggs under her & she has done a great job with them so far.

So yesterday I candled. 1 egg is cracked - at the air cell - but its probably not going to make it. All 5 are developing nicely. I think there is about a week to go.

Will it matter that she was broody for a week before I set the eggs? Do you think she will quit? I'm thinking of heating up the incubator just in case.

She'll probably sit on them for a little longer. I did the same thing not to long ago and she still sat on the eggs a week longer till 2 hatched. I wouldn't be to worried, just would keep an eye on them.

She has hatched 3 of the 5 eggs set! Ha that was easy! She sure is determined. Im hoping one is a rooster as we lost our roo to the fox today. But at least we have 3 newbies!
