First chick

Up to 3 live chicks 4,5&6 pipping now. Is it normal for the older ones to pick at opening of the one pipping? Sorta like they've helping I guess?

Congratulations! I would also be interested in your building plans for your brooder. Someday I would like to hatch my own chicks and equipment can be so expensive.

Malfunction temp soared to 105 today while I was at work. We lost 2 of the 8, and the only Blue Am was one of them. I had 4 vent holes open the only thing I can think that may have happened was I did not allow for the added body heat or respirations of the chicks. The heat source has been the same since day 3 and was constant, and that is the most vents I have ever had open

We bought our incubator from TSC for $40 -- we've hatched 2 sets of eggs and working on a 3rd set now.
