I just got a Rooster from my Uncle and Aunt and I don't know for sure what he is I think he is a mix but not sure maybe some of you can help me find out what he is. I am going to tell you the shape of his feathers are not my fault my uncle did not like his behavior and was more than happy to shove him in a little rabbit cage. That is why I asked for him, I am not sure were they got him or the hens but they to do not know for sure what he is and if more pics are needed just let me know.

He is happy to peck things out of Cleo's hair for her and has yet to show aggression to her.

He has shown some aggression toward my puppy but in his defense my puppy is rambunctious and it is very mild and is mostly when warnings are not seen or not obeyed. No blood has been spilled yet.

He loves his new freedom and has shown no aggression toward me but has attacked my boyfriends mother while I was gone and she had to handling it by herself. When he attacked her he cut her leg but then he tried again she blocked him with her foot until he fled from her and he has not attacked her since.

Big question how concerned should I be about the damage the cage he was constantly shoved into did to his comb and that I think he has blood on the back of his head feathers for they look reddish were he has no other reddish feathers on him and they have been fading they look more white like most of his other feathers?

These are his tail feathers although you can't see them very well he has some black feathers that were broken by the cage he was in.

This is his new coop this was his first time being in it he had no idea what the ramp was or what to do with it although he learned fast that he could go up it what took him forever was learning he could go through the hole to go in side.

The thing I love most is that he likes to follow me unless he is around the other birds that my boyfriend's mother has she has different types of Bantams, Geese, and Turkeys.

This is what his legs and feet look like hope it helps and thanks so much for looking at this and hope some one out there can help me. Even if not I loved sharing about my big Rooster and I am so glade I got him I look forward to doing my best to make him as happy as I can and keeping him healthy and I hope he has many more years to live for we do not know how old he is ether.

I don't know what breed he is, but he's a beautiful boy! Hopefully he'll end up being nice, good for you rescuing him! Roos are misunderstood and often kept in distasteful confinments. I, personally, love roos. I have fifteen, and only one is mean.
Having a nice roo is based on trust. Your goal is to be the 'head roo' so to speak. You have to be in charge, or he's going to atack you. Being in charge doesn't necissarily mean being the biggest and toughest...your roo must trust you to give you this position. Every chicken wants the strongest in cahrge, as that's who will protect them. Show your roo that you are the protector. Spend time with him, and is you must show him who's boss, do it gently. Correcting a roo harshly makes him see you as a threat and no chicken wants a threat in charge of their flock. He'll learn who the big guy is soon enough, and if he trusts you he won't give you any trouble.
No rooster has ever been made nice by being stuffed in a little cage. And I guess you saw that, since you rescued him from that situation.
Of course, there are some roos who are just 'bad eggs' and absolutely refuse to be nice. But in my experience, only one out of fifteen can't learn.
Good job, and good luck!
Hopefully someone else will come along and take a guess at the breed, whatever he is he's beautiful and obviously happy with his new life :-)

Yea my family were all dissing him and saying mean things my brother even told me that he would go into the coop with a stick to "protect him self" and they told me that he was attacking the hens but I spent like two hours with him and the flock once when he was out and not once did he show signs of aggression to them, but he did to me when I scared the hens. When he did he just jumped on my leg then backed up and puffed up and then left me alone when I didn't move, and I had had to protect him from my puppy when they were first introduced he even likes to stand next to me and just look around with me. I spend most of they day with him because I have to make sure he stays out of the garden and away from the other chickens for he needs to be isolated for another week to make sure he does not get them sick. I am totally loving it!

I think he is a mix, he has a yellow overlay to his feathers - rather than just white. Looks like his comb might have had frostbite from winter (black spots). You could also post his photo at "what breed or gender is this."

Welcome to BYC!

I hope your new rooster fits in well with your home and flock. It's nice the two of you found each other.

Good luck to you!

Based on the spurs I'd say he's at least two years old. He appears to have a very Dorking-like body type to me. Possibly a Light Sussex mix.

You have a rooster who isn't afraid of humans, which is going to be a problem at times (and will never change). He will probably be really beautiful when his tail feathers grow back.
