First Chickens

We just got a first chickens two days ago. We have a Araucana, 2yrs old, a Black Star, 2yrs old, and two mutts that look like Black Stars that are 3 months old. They are all doing well together. We were figuring the two older chickens will stop laying for a while with the move and new chicken coop. Today we noticed they are being a LOT more vocal. We put a golf ball in each nesting box and within 20 minutes they were in the boxes kicking out a nest. They have also started squatting in the coop and nesting boxes. We are all very excited for our first egg.

As I was writing this my daughter came walking in with a nice big blue egg from our Araucana!!

About two hours later our Black Star layed a nice brown egg. . . Life is Good

We got another blue egg today from our Araucana, sort of. It was about 7:30pm and we started hearing the egg song. She was on the top roost singing and then we heard the dreaded THUD. Found on broken blue egg on the floor. Yesterday in the nesting box, today from the roost, we will see what happens tomorrow...
