First Chickies!

I've been doing research for weeks and have visited this site quite a bit without joining but I just bought my first chicks today and figured it was time to join!

I bought 3 Buff Orpingtons
3 Barred Rock
2 Black Sex Links

I'm SOOO EXCITED!!! They are staying inside in their brooder box for 3-4 weeks and then they will go outside to the coop. We are fixing up our 2 story shed to be the coop and they will have a nice set up on the second floor and I'm hoping to get goats in a year or so that will live downstairs. We will also be building a large outdoor run for them.

Welcome to BYC! They are really cute! Do you have a heat lamp or something in there? Just want to make sure... Anyway I am jealous, I want chicks!!!

Yep! It attaches to the lid which i had off to take the pics. I have a red bulb in it... I read the red was better because it reduces pecking.

Cute babies! And yes, red is best. White is a very exciting light for babies and can also disturb sleeps, where as the red, or infra red allows for a proper sleep pattern.

Thank you. My boss built me the brooder box yesterday. He has had chickens before so he knew what to do lol

Yea I'm trying to keep things as organized as i can as these will be raised for both eggs and meat
