First chicks coming this week! Looking for advice from senior chicken owners.

Now back to the subject of hatching and what is happening with my first try at home. The Houdan arrived! My grandson names it Houdini.. "Nana, if it is a girl, let's call her Houmama!" says 8 year old Alex. The two little ones a chirping up a storm but the other eggs show no sign of a pip. In fact the duo ar climbing over the eggs! I'm concerned the may put the beginning pip on the under side. What should I do?

AUZLDY that is a great idea

Keesmom- I got my chicks from my pet chicken.com, which i believe just gets there chicks from Meyer hatchery. Where did you get your chickens? Do you know anyone in western mass who has rare breeds?
I only know Faverolles, and there are no breeders in the western part of the state. I am in the NE part of the state. Most of my starter flock came from a long time breeder south of Worcester.

Keesmom, what are your favorelles like to eachother? Mine so far (as of 1 day) are kinda ruling the brooder. They keep pecking other chicks while they sleep and jumping on them. They are sweet to me though.

They are just babies. Newly hatched chicks of any breed may peck another not knowing it is another chick. That behavior subsides quickly.

I only breed Faverolles though occasionally the kids want to have a few hatchery pullets of another breed.

Like my brooder? Home made. The chicks seems to be very happy, its 10 feet long so they have plenty of room to run around.

I got my flock one of those chicken swings, thinking they could get some exercise. They absolutely love it! They wont stop jumping on it and trying to swing it.

They've even figured out that when they are all on it they are strong enough to swing it as chicks. Super cute. I highly recommend.

Oh and they are officially sleeping on me. My one Splash Maran wont leave my side when I'm in the brooder, she's my sweetest girl yet.
Also, my two Black Coppers are friendly as well. The cuckoos are just starting to come around (been almost 3 weeks).
It's so fun to watch them grow every day
