First chicks in the brooder

Hey I'm new to chick raising. Can anyone tell me a way to raise them without using w bulb my friend says just use hay but I'm not sure! I just wat my lil babies to be happy (I have 3 goldn appanzeller chicks, I think one mght be a roo! Eeeeeepppp! ) and can u plz tell me what the smallest type of chicken is? Ty! :p

They have to have heat...hay is a good insulator, but baby chicks stay under mom until they get older...and then they spend more and more time not being heated by her...you have to simulate that same process.
 
Oh ok thanks! Will a computer lamp work? If not how mwny watts will the bulb have to be and where will I get one? ll amazon have some stuff for chicks? And what is the best bedding for them, at themoment I'm using hay in one corner and tyen pine shavings. Is tyat ok? Thanks for the info! I'm going ta get them a bulb today! They're adorable, I'll post a pic soon!
 
Thanks! I'll get a bulb today. But I live in a really hot country so should I still get a 250watt? The highest temp is about 30 degrees ish. And what shall I usse as bedding? At the mment I've got hay and pine shavings, is that ok? Thanks!
