First chicks = need advice

That being said, yes, a white bird from silver pied parents is vastly different than a white bird out of other parents. A white bird from a pair of silver pied parents bred to a dark pied out of silver pied parents would produce 100% silver pied children, as opposed to when you breed 2 silver pieds (like yours) where you would be getting an assortment of silver pied, dark pied, and whites from those eggs. I really enjoy the silver pieds (and regular pieds). My dark pied hen is from silver pied parents, thus I would like a white boy from silver pied parents to put over her to produce the silver pieds that I want without the whites.

Just wandering where you got your info from because you will not get 100% silver pieds I have never got all silver pied from this breeding. And also breeding silver pied to silver pied can and will produce whites, silver pied, dark pied and pied white-eye

If it is a white with silver pied parents, bred to a dark pied with silver pied parents, it will produce all silver pied birds. Does your breeding pair have silver pied genetics?

DM, that was information Deerman gave to me when I was discussing silver pied genetics with him.

Mmaddie- yep! Mine are dark pied from silver pieds and Deerman told me if I got a white out of silver pied parents that all the offspring from that bird and my dark pied from silver pied parents would be silver pied.

It's all good information. I started out as a biology major before changing and was really into the genetics thing. I love learning about what makes what.
Next question. Pictures would help. What is the difference between a white and a silver?

I love the genetics too. I know there's information I'm missing; all I can pass on is what I learned from Kev and Deerman and DM and a bunch of others when I was writing up and learning about the peafowl genetics. They can get really complicated. If DM has bred white from silver pied to dark pied (white eye, of course, if that wasn't evident) from silver pied and gotten something other than silver pied, then obviously Deerman was wrong. In this case DM *should* be able to conclusively tell us what this pairing will produce instead.

As for the difference between a white and a silver *pied*; quite simply, a silver pied has at least a little color. A white bird will have no colored feathers at all. "Silver" might also be what some people are calling opals, which are a silvery colored bird. Stick to calling them opals though XD Less confusing.

Mostly pied and a few silvers. Me and Burt talk about this years and as far as I know he never try this breeding I think Kev did a few years ago can't remember maybe old age. Here is my new baby I been working on this for 6 years charcoal pied white-eye

First, does it make a difference if the dark pied is a white eye? Deerman told me both of mine would be white eye, and you made a distinction between "dark pied" and "pied white eye" as a result of silver pied by silver pied breeding. I still get fuzzy on genetics when it comes to the interaction of 'not straight' breedings (straight being something like piedxpied vs 'not straight' piedxpied white eye or piedxwhite or something). I still intend to breed a white from silver pied to my dark pied from silver pieds- so much the better if I get pieds (my favorite) along with my silver pieds!

As for your charcoal pied white eye- cute! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl yet? If I'd been working on it 6 years I'd be getting a DNA test haha! If it's a girl it won't be fertile, right?

Octavian is my pride! I am hoping to breed opals when I finally get moved into my own place.

Have some more pics!

With Blu being a creeper in the bottom left XD

Baby face!

And preening his feathers nearby on a nice day:

I love the opals. My goal for them is to get an opal BS pied line. Long term project!
