I've hatched some of my own araucanas and one ameraucana. Both araucana chicks are tufted, have a look at both breeds side by side:
The blue chick on the left is the ameraucana. In the center is a bilaterally tufted araucana chick and on the far right is a large black chick with one visible tuft. This should give you a good idea of what tufts look like on chick down.
