First Coturnix Eggs

I got my first eggs today, too! Too bad I'm going on a two-week trip and won't be around to enjoy them. Troseblad, how are you processing the poo to make it useful for the garden? A friend of mine suggested mixing it in a pile with woodshavings til it "cools down" enough to use. Boy have I got a ton of quail poop, though...

I am mixing it with kitchen scraps (no fats/meat/oil), leaves and clippings from the garden. I have a compost pile that I turn about once a week. I have one pile that I don't add anything to. The other I add to until the bin is full. My pile sometimes gets hotter than 150 degrees. Keep turnin' til it is no longer hot. Then the compost is ready. It really is "black gold" for the garden. This week I am going to build a couple of compost tumblers out of 55 gallon drums that I will set on a-frames to facilitate easy turning. When I get it finished and am no longer a "new egg" I will post pics.
