First Day :)

I would be surprised if he could 'do the deed'. I have a bantam roo with a standard cochin, among others, and maybe half her eggs end up being fertile. She is about twice his size though, so he probably has trouble holding on!

Babies I hatched out are all doing well. I have eggs in the incubator and will do more incubating in October. Chickens, turkeys, guineas, ducks for the new farm.

Not the greatest and not the worst I guess.

I would have been thankful since I am just learning this to end up with two! I ended up with five wonderful chickies. So far!
When I opened eggs most of them WERE developed. I went over every single step and the only thing I can think of is that maybe the temps were too high in the hatcher? The next lot goes in the 24th, due the 27th. I just cleaned up the hatcher well, will make sure the temps are right in it and enough humidity before then. Though I am almost certain humidity wasnt the problem.
The mixed chicks turned out beautiful and seem hardier than the two purebreds. I guess there might be something to hybrid vigor!! (Not knocking any of the breeders out there.)

Well, I have 14 Polish and 9 Serama eggs supposed to hatch the end of the week. After last week, I cleaned out the hatcher and made sure on the temps and such. The Polish eggs are in there right now but I am not upping the humidity until Thursday. And I will keep turning them until Wedesday night.

I got some more silkie eggs and six turkey eggs today, so into the incubator they go this evening.
I am learning with each hatch and I never consider it wasted time, however many hatch. Plus its been a good experience for my daughter, its something we work together on and discuss. At her age I am glad to have SOMETHING we both like!

Congrats on the Welsummers!!!

As far as your wife, just tell her, it cant be THAT bad, she will get over it and "this too shall pass".

Sneak them into the bator, when wife notices act very surprised and say, OMG they are multiplying

I did this with my husband, he cracked up and walked away just shaking his head, I was allowed to remain in the house instead of moving to the barn

Besides all that excitement, chickies were being hatched upstairs.

I think at last count there were 25 that made it. I lost some over the weekend with all the confusion.

I think they all huddled to much and suffocated a few trying to stay close to the light. Sorry it took so long to post the pictures. The bigger chick is the lone one that hatched out in the aquarium on 9/5. I am glad it is getting along good with the new babies.
Congrats everyone on your hatches.
