I know this is 'off-topic' but WHERE did you find this picture? I LOVE it!
So back to the duckling and chicks. It sure seems like a nice idea to start some of them out together so young. My Plymouth/Barred Rocks and Laced-Wyandotte can be horribly mean to any other fowl that seems a bit different from themselves. (Animal behavior really can be a bit too close to human behavior some times.)
And I agree, my biggest problem with mixing the two is maintaining a clean water source for the chickens. I've started leaving one of the traditional 'chicken waterers' further away from the food source, and the ducks swimming pool, and it manages to stay cleaner through most of the day.
Unfortunately I can take all the pictures I want right now. I just can't do anything about it. I'm planning to tear my computer down this weekend so I can get the card reader reattached. I still owe some precious baby chick pictures too.
And the baby ducks dried out more completely and turned into precious crested newly hatched baby ducks.
Only, what am I going to do about that??? Assuming they are a boy and girl, because of the lethal gene, they can't breed together???
I just took a few with the ducklings sitting on my lap (that was fun to do. They kept climbing up over my arm). Hopefully they look ok when they get on my computer. If it's warm tomorrow, I will take them outside for a little bit.
