Congratulations! :celebrate

First eggs are always exciting. Yes, first eggs are perfectly normal and edible. Early ones start small (they are called pullet eggs) and grow to full size over time.

Laying in the wrong place is common the first time or two. Once they learn what "that feeling" means, they'll head to the quiet, protected space (the nest boxes) to lay. Do you have any fake eggs there? They like to lay where other eggs are.

I purchased a couple at the feed store. Others have used golf balls and even round, painted rocks.

If you do buy the commercial ceramic eggs, then I recommend putting an "X" on each end with permanent marker so you can easily distinguish them from real eggs when collecting.
