I got my first little white egg this afternoon! I went in to put the hens in for the night and it was in the nest box right next to the light blue plastic easter egg I had put in there. My chickens are 20 weeks and 2 days old (the Blue Andalusian is 20 weeks 3 days) Being in Phoenix I figured the heat was slowing them down, that may be why an Andalusian beat a RIR in the egg-laying race! I guess in all fairness if the RIR lays tomorrow, it could still be a tie.

I have a couple of EE's as well, since they are kind of a mutt breed, do they have a consistent age they start laying?

Congrats on the egg! My RIR's laid at 23 weeks 5 days and 27 weeks. If your RIRs are like mine, it could be a while. If it's any condolence, the one who laid at 27 weeks lays the most often and the biggest egg. She only missed three days during the entire month of July. My earliest layer (an EE - 20 weeks, 4 days) missed 11 days in July.

It's great to read about other people whose chickens don't start laying until 20+ weeks. I was getting so discouraged reading about all the people with sex links and such who have been getting eggs since 17 weeks. How long after your first egg did they lay their second?
