In the Brooder
Christmas came early this December when Henrietta laid her first egg.
I thought the first egg would be smaller, but this one is perfect. So proud of her
Henrietta, and the other 4 members of the flock, are 25 week old Buff Orpington/Barred Rock hybrids. I was starting to think that they might wait until spring with the cooler temps lately (it's gotten down to -10 C, 14 F in PEI, Canada) and we're now less than 9 hours of daylight a day. But she did it!!
Keeping them on the grower feed with oyster shell and crushed egg shell until they're all laying. Here's a picture of my little flock tilling up one of my raised beds about a month ago
From left to right:
Matilda, Iris, Henrietta, Winifred, and Gertrude.
