One of our Barred rock mamas is just a few days over 15 weeks and she layed her first egg this morning in the roost tray! She’s been showing all the tell tale egg laying signs for the past 3 weeks and today was the day! We made some nesting boxes out of tidy cat litter containers and she’s been in and out of them all afternoon. Success!!

You mention tell-tale signs...?

Until recently, I've only brought in hens who were already laying. I have chicks, and I'll be excited to start seeing these signs...

15 weeks is extremely young I have to admit! She is definitely laying though by the looks of her comb. The earliest I've had a chicken lay was my australorp at 19 weeks.
