Wow if my (future) chickens lay eggs that pretty, I'll have a hard time cracking them open!

Congratulations on your over-achievers!

We have a total of 4 eggs now and they all look different.
We have not eaten any as we don't want to break the shells!!!
Kind of counterproductive!!

The egg today has a chalky coating...what is that? Did the bloom dry weird or something??

I'll post this question on another post as well.

Thanks again!

Lisa

Penske, How wonderful for you. That is definately a beautiful egg!! If you want to keep the egg, using a pin put a hole in both ends and then blow the egg. Voila, a beautiful empty egg!!
In regards to what to feed your girls & 1 roo. I would suggest that you wean them off of the 'baby' food by mixing it with layer & then just layer and yes be sure to have oyster shell in a bowl so they can free feed it.
I had a chicken that showed no sign of being a roo until he was about 8 months old. He ate layer with the girls & did not have any issues. He was infact a very beautiful bird. Until he became over protective of the girls & then he met his demise.

HenniePennie,

at what age did he become over-protective and what was the breed? Ours is a white cochin and he's been very sweet. He'll be 18 weeks on Monday.

Thanks!

Lisa
