Glad you joined! You will have to post pictures of your eggs when you get them. I have a feeling that this thread will still be going a month from now!

Wondering who did it...but the deed is done!!! Our first egg!!!!!!!! And I feel strangely proud:love

The suspects are 2 18 week old Orps. One of them has been in and out of the coop all day this week, scratching and make nests all over. She squatted for us about a week ago. Her sister appears more mature but maybe has squatted a time or two in the last day or so. Rarely see her in the coop though. We've all been a bit obsessive about this moment checking the nest box frequently. the egg may have been laid sometime yesterday, but tonight is when I discovered it. Right before bedtime I opened the people door just to have a peek and there nestled in a nice pile of poop, right under the roost was this beauty:

Large grocery store egg for size comparison. Not bad I think!

So would you eat it? Laying in a pile of poop for possibly 2 80 degree days? My gut instinct says it's fine...will my gut agree after eating it??!

It just gets more fun each day!!!

Congratulations!!! I would eat it if it was mine but I am a newbie and it's not my tummy we're talking about. My 19 wk old chicks are not laying yet but since we haven't gotten the nesting boxes done yet, I guess that's OK, they should be done this week-end and then LET THE LAYING BEGIN:lol: Their combs and wattles are going from pink to red but they haven't been doing the egg squat that I've seen. They are becoming more vocal though. I am very anxious for that first egg:)

Hi all!
I am a complete newbie to the forums and raising chickens. Have really enjoyed reading this thread, congrats to all of the First Eggers! We have two Black Copper Marans pullets, Moro is probably 16+ weeks and Maru is probably 12+ weeks. When I got the girls I wanted pullets so that I would not have to wait for my first eggs! lol

Moro is showing a good bit of reddish pink, and Maru is just dark pinkish. So I still think I have a while to wait.

Hi all, Ive been reading this thread and watching how one by one folks are getting their first egg. Doing my math
this morning, I figure my oldest hens are at 25 weeks! Still no eggs. I look everyday with hope and nothing!

Since I live in Texas and we have been having days over 100 could that keep them from laying? Hope thats not
a dumb question
