First Egg Countdown

My Isbar, Nemo, finally laid her first egg! She is 27 1/2 weeks old. Her egg is the moss green egg in the middle!
And today I am excited that my Naked Neck finally laid her first egg today! She is 23 1/2 weeks old. Nice green color.

Nemo, yesterday on top and Naked Neck, Buzzie, laid today, on the bottom.

I have been finding 3 eggs a day for the past three days!!! Its so eggciting!!! I only have 4-5 hens, still on the fence about one. Lol So I'm thinking they r all probably laying now, or at least 4. I soooo wish I knew who lays what! I'm gonna have to remodel the coop so I can see inside without disturbing them. Lol

I've been waiting on two white leghorns. This morning, I went to pick up Snow, who had flown over the 5 ft fence again, and she crouched slightly and put her wings out.
Now this may have been a squat, or she may have been considering taking flight. I am not sure with her.... Both of them have very large red combs and wattles and are quite vocal lately. She was yelling at me the whole time I was getting the gate open to put her back in. Maybe she was just protesting being taken from all that green grass.
Any way to tell if its a submission squat? Will she do it again if she has done it once?

That is the squat.

Congrats to everyone getting eggs!

Congrats on the eggs....don't have any just yet, but my ladies r 18 weeks and my husband, kids and I r getting anxious.....have I read right that my two ladies w larger redder combs and waddles r closer to laying then my other two w smaller duller looking ones?.....

We placed some golf balls in their nesting boxes to help them "figure it out". Pothead our barred rock has stollen all the yellow golf balls and claimed them as her own. The others kinda fight and squabble over the others.

I was wondering the same thing about the waddles. My pullet stays dark and dull until I give her treats and then its like she's blushing! Comb waddles, face, all bright red like my cockerel :/

A hen that is laying will have bright, red comb and wattles. (Or close to laying) When they molt or are broody, their comb and wattles will get pale.

My welsummers that are 24 weeks old both started laying today. Nice color on the eggs too! 2 more weeks or so before the next welsummer starts up.

My Barred Rock, Betsy, just laid her first egg!! I'm a little surprised as she is only 18 1/2 weeks old! I'm thinking of making her a little gold crown! Lol, the other girls are green with envy I'm sure! She sang long and loud in the coop and then laid a tiny egg in the run. Lol
