I am still waiting for eggs from my two RIR. I think I still have some time to go since they are just now starting to get pink in the combs and wattles. Here is a pic of one of them. It is really hard to get pictures of chickens when they are not very friendly. She is at the end of the propane tank, That is the hang out in the day time.

Rats.....I think she is toying with the idea. Today she is sitting and makes a pterodactyl screech when I come near her on the nest. No egg today yet there she sits. I've locked her out of the coop a time or two in the past few days and so far she has moved on to other activities.

I'd think it terribly unfair for her to give me less than a dozen eggs before going broody!

Frogdogs - that egg is a beauty and so big!!!

I am the poster child for impatient.

We just got our first pullets 4 days ago and I'm already anxious for that first egg! LOL Having read all of this, though, it looks like my chickies are going to make me wait a while! The lady we bought them from said they were 18-19 weeks but having seen all of your pics, I'm not convinced. If mine are that old they are ridiculously immature!

This is Heidi our Red Star. (Hatched March 9th)

This one is the baby, our EE. She's only 9 weeks. She's either Pumpkin or Jelly Bean, it hasn't been decided yet. (Hatched May 19th)

These babies were not exposed to humans much by the lady who raised them so they are terrified of people! On the upside, it's convinced me to get day old chicks when the time comes to add more.

Mommato5, I think they are a little younger, maybe two or three weeks younger (or more? I don't know - your girls' wattles and combs are not that big). My Red Stars' wattles and combs got very big at around 17 weeks old.

Thanks for the input! I am sad that they are not at the development I was expecting, but I know it will be worth it! Just means I have to impatiently wait longer.
