First Egg Countdown

Week 21 and still no eggs.

Also hello everyone! I've been away at college. hehe. I see the chickens during the weekend and I've been calling my mother every day for updates. All have developed nice combs and my RIR has very thin wattles.

Meanwhile, my crossed Roos have a spiked comb and a pea comb, but only one has wattles. I placed a bowl of their mulch dirt in the coop, since they like taking dustbaths in it, so maybe that will improve their mood until we can extend the coop.

I want eggs. ;A;

I have 11 "girls" and one rooster from an ornamental layer collection from Murry McMurry. I got them the first week in May. I still have not sat down to figure out what they all are but I know half are Chochins and two are polish. They are 25 weeks old now and NO EGGS!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck is going on. Several of them now have nice red combs so I anxiously am looking every day. Is there anything management wise that can change how fast they start to lay? Is it possible that they won't lay until spring. Really I love my chickens but if they don't give me an egg soon I'm going to scream:)
So that is around 25 weeks? I used the date calculator at timeanddate.com to count the weeks. Some breeds "mature" late, others early.
If you post a good picture of them/ some of them, the folks on here can tell you exactly what breed you have and predict within a few days of when they will lay- it works really well

Came home from a long day at class to find my first egg!!!! I wish I knew whose it was!!!

2 eggs in the nest box this morning. another brown egg, but not as dark as the marans, so maybe the Wellsummer?
Congrats! Could be the welsummer.

Congrats! Take time on the weekend to scope out the nesting box and you will find out who it is.

Happy Chooks, should I be leaving some eggs in the nesting box to encourage the other chickens to start laying? At this point my 4 year old has been going out every day and collecting whatever eggs there are, usually just the one from the maran, but should we be leaving them set for a few days? Thanks!

No, collect them so they don't get broken. You can put wooden eggs or golf balls in the nest to encourage them to lay there.

Thanks

Thanks! My boyfriend was rooting for a barred Rock and I was the Rhode Island Red, so we will see :) we got another egg this morning, which was significantly bigger. It's like Christmas morning!!
