First Egg Countdown

Had to add this one...they got sick of me taking pictures and ran for their coop LOL

These pictures were taken sometime last month...they really don't do justice to the chickens, as they were taken on my cell, but that is all I have...hope they can alteast help some???

New Coop-No Eggs.

I was getting 4-5 eggs a day from my 5 pullets who were in a 6 x 2.5 small Chinese Coop. I spent around $400 in materials plus a bunch of recycled materials to make them a duplex 7 x 5 and 7 x 4 coop. Added 2 more pullets the first day and another 2 on day number 3. Here are my egg production numbers after giving them a Deluxe upgrade:

Day 1- 8 eggs from 7
Day 2- 4 eggs from 7
Day 3- 6 eggs from 9
Day 4- 5 eggs from 9
Day 5- 4 eggs from 9
Day 6- 5 eggs from 9
Day 7- 3 eggs from 9
Day 8- 0 eggs from 9

I am just wondering if it was the 3 day cold spell that caused a sudden decrease in egg production yesterday and today (zero). I am especially worried about my Red Star Marcy who was on a 110 day laying streak. She did not lay yesterday or today. (there goes the world record in trash)

I would understand that the new pullets might stop because of the stress from picking but why have the old pullets stopped?

I am going to wait and see how it goes tomorrow since the weather is nice today and I have opened a section of their coop for more air and sunlight for the next 3 days.

Just took some recent photos in the coop...the lighting just doesn't show how bright red they are!

Here is Mr Roo

Sorry they are such bad photo's, hope this helps a bit more?! They really don't like having their pic taken LOL....hard to catch them staying still enough to get any kind of photo.

And last but not least, Mr Roo, who has yet to crow...they will start their 30th week on Sat....the light is not showing how really red they truly are, so hope this gives some idea??? Sorry the pic's are so bad!!! I do have the lowest on the totem pole, that is a little light in weight, but they are pretty good size/weight...I have no clue, unless it is the lack of light, why they are not laying yet....They have been showing signs of POL for almost 2 months now :( I have read that BR's lay around 22 weeks, on average...they are quite late...anyone else having this problem???
Thanks all

I think their combs are a bit small... Mine is not laying yet( has been squatting for 7 days) but her comb looks much more developed than yours.. Maybe it is just the pics like you said.. I will post a picture of mine.. Are you positive they are 30 weeks... If so they are probably just late maturing.. Possibly a month to go..
400
This was taken a few weeks ago

mithious - are you positive of their age? They don't look 29 weeks old, more like 20 weeks old. Did you get them as chicks or started pullets?

Junibutt - they quit laying because you changed their environment. Chickens are very much creatures of habit and hate change. Any change can disrupt their laying for a bit. Usually they work it out and get back to normal in a week or two.

Mr Orpington, yeah mine are a tad smaller, but not by much and a few are the same size as yours...it is the cell phone pictures...it's a cheap throw away phone and takes horrible pictures. Plus the birds don't stay still long enough for a good close up shot...

Goodness, another month? That will make them 34 weeks

These are just hatchery birds, not heritage birds. Yes they are 29 1/2 weeks old. I got them as day olds, shipped from the hatchery, and raised them myself, so am positive of their age. Rechecked the weeks again, to be sure and am positive of their age...

What on earth would make them so slow growing? Any ideas? 34 weeks is about the age that heritage birds start laying, or there about, not hatchery stock. They haven't had health issues other than cocci at 5 weeks old and I wormed them at about 16 weeks, thinking to get them done before POL so no withholding would be needed.

I'm truly stumped on this one!!!

Do you feed them a measured amount per day, or is food available to them all day long?

Positive Happy Chooks. Got them as day olds and rechecked, recounted the weeks to make sure I hadn't counted wrong....They will be 30 weeks from hatch this Sat. They were shipped right from the hatchery.

What on earth would make them so slow growing? Any ideas? The pictures really don't show them well, it's a cheap cell phone.

Thanks to both of you for helping!!!
