Every pullet is different in how quickly they make an egg, but generally, it takes 26 hours to make an egg. So they will get later and later in the day, until it's too late, then they will skip a day, then start again the following morning. Then add to it that their bodies have to adjust to this process, so it can be pretty sporadic. I've had layers start and lay a couple of eggs, then nothing for a week or two.Tell me, when they first start laying, is it always early in the morning? Yesterday the first layer was supposed to lay at noon, and she didn't, but at 2 o'clock I found an egg ON TOP of the nest boxes (which she has been using), warm, with a buckeye pullet next to it! was this the Buckeye just starting, or #1. running late, forgetting to use the nest boxes, and Penny, the buckeye, happened to be standing up there?
Congrats on having 2 pullets laying! It finally happened!!!! Didn't just get my first egg, I got two!!!!!! I'm so excited.![]()
I wasn't even looking for it. Went into the run to visit and glanced into coop and saw a beautiful brown egg sitting in the nest box. I went in to get it and one of the girls followed me in and got into another nest box and sat. I stayed for a bit thinking I could catch her in the act but I think she wanted to be alone. Went back later and her present was waiting in the box. I was so excited, I couldn't wait for my husband to get home and show him, I was shaking, lol. It's both our days off too so that was cool. The first one is a little smaller. I dont know who laid the first one but do know who laid the second one. Three more girls to go.
And I might add they were delicious!
