YIPPEEE!!!

Ach! The wait is killing me! I have 3 BA, 1 BO, 3 CM, 7 EE all 19w1d. The Marans are getting red but no squatting. And a few EEs are pink but everyone else seems perfectly content to stay pale and quiet. I want loud "songs" and tasty eggs! Hurry up ladies!!!

Isn't it funny?

They have their own timetable and we just get to be the observer of it all.

Mine are all coming right up to 6 months old and I can see them getting closer and closer... pale combs, wattles and faces slowly becoming a deeper red, more mature behavior regarding mating and more interest in the nesting boxes, new noises and some squatting... yet no eggs. We wait and watch. It's fascinating. I love to observe, so I may be the odd one, but I love to see them maturing and becoming what they are destined to be, it's beautiful.

It is fun to watch them grow. They all have different personalities and quirks. I'm certainly getting to know them a lot more since I'm practically stalking them! "Who's redder today? Has yor comb grown? Anyone want to squat?" Lol! My kids think I'm crazy!

Congrats on all the eggs!! I only have one laying right now. She started at 21 weeks, they are now 23 weeks. One of my BR's is SUPER red and her comb is HUGE! But her pelvic bones are about 1.5 fingers apart. I also have 2 BO's who's combs are red and growing and they are 2 fingers apart and squatting. So, anytime with them. My other RSL's and 2 EE's will probably be a few more weeks. Although 1 EE is very red and her comb is very big, but she's too skiddish for me to catch her.

I had something weird happen this am. I was waiting on my one RSL who's been laying to lay this am. It usually only takes her about 20 min when she goes in the nest box. This am she was in there an hour! I put my hand under her and no egg, just the golf ball I have in there for the others. I moved the golf ball and she put it back under her! I then removed it totally to another nest box and literally within 30 seconds I had an egg.

What the heck?? Is she trying to go broody at 23 weeks?? Weird.

No, sometimes they just like to rest in the box for a while. Some will lay back down on their egg and take a nap too. Doesn't mean they will go broody. (though I have had a broody that was 7 months old, but she's a very broody breed)

When you go out one day and someone is more vocal and pacing back and forth to the nest box, that's the day you'll get an egg. Should be really soon now.
