First Egg Countdown

First egg was 7/12 and we've had another every morning since! Three of our RSLs are the same age, but only one is laying. They were 18 wks. on 7/14.

We also have 5 EEs due to start laying next month!!

Flash had a double yolker yesterday. It was the same size as our other hens. Is it normal for her eggs to be so small? Will they get bigger as she ages? She laid 2 small eggs and a regular size egg that was a double yolker yesterday and no egg today.

Yes, it's normal - her body has to adjust to laying. Yes, they will gradually get bigger over time. You may notice a large change in egg size after her first molt. She will not lay every day, there will be days that her body takes a day off.

Well I got another first egg today. I am not sure who laid it though. I have been preoccupied with my broody hen who hatched 4 chicks. I will try to pay better attention tomarrow and post which one. Here is the egg it is speckled.

The girls are 23 weeks old and they are Buff Orpingtons. I was so excited to see those eggs in that nest box I started crying.

Wow you waited a long time...I'm happy for you. I got a first egg from hendra today and Carla layed one at 845 tonight beside us on the grass. No shell...my girls are a couple days shy of 17 weeks. I have a feeling canella and Hannah arnt far behind....keeping my fingers crossed.
