First Egg Countdown

Well just to give my opinion 2 of my girls first egg was a large double yolker. The remainderof the eggs were small and sometimes chalky. I have one layer 3 gorgeous eggs in row and the fourth day layed a chalky one. So I figured she wouldn't lay today and I was right. She didn't. They are young so it takes time for them to sort things out. I have another that layed her first 6 days ago and hasn't layed one since. It will work itself out I'm sure.

Still enjoying these first few weeks of getting eggs. I love raising the lid on the nest boxes and seeing those little surprises my girls have left for me. So far we average about 2 eggs daily. We have 9 Buff Orpingtons at 25 weeks old and 3 Barred Rocks and 1 Plymouth Rock at 22 weeks old. We are only getting eggs from the BO right now.

Still no egg here, but I did get one squatting for the first time. Yay. Though not the chicken I was expecting to lay first since she's a lot less red in the face than the others. We shall see what happens.

Pretty cool I think, 19 weeks old. I was supposed to get 6 ISA Browns, and through reading they lay at 16 weeks sometimes, but 1 was a Roo. ISA brown roos are white. So, I guess the lady a Rural King who had 3k chickens at the time and trying to get them to the correct place was wrong. I think I got Gold Sex Links. No big deal. Anyway, 3 days ago I get a call, we have an egg. 1 egg in the nesting box. Great!! first one. (By the way its truly a first, never had chickens before) I came home from golf, there are 2 more on the floor of their run. Great. The one in the nesting box looks great, dark brown, small size. The 2 on the run floor look light brown and chalky. Thinking I had 3 layers all starting the same day was awesome. Anyway, only 1 dark brown in the nesting box the last 2 days. Haven't figured that out, I am in the run feeding them at night drinking a beer so I know I didn't miss an earlier lay. So, today I find a large to extra large egg in the run under the feeder. Good, Now at least I think I have 2 layers. Question: where do you think the 2 chalky looking ones came from?

Flock:
5 What I think are Gold Sex Links
2 Bard Rocks

I'm not sure about who laid the chalky eggs, but congrats on your first ever egg!

Maybe post a pic of your chickens & one of the more experienced folks can get back to you on what breed you have & who may have laid what.

She most likely has been laying them there for the past five or so days, and thought you'd never find out. Some hens are notorious secret stash layers, and you may have other such caches on your property. They hide them really well too.

Last summer, I moved a stand up greenhouse and found about 14 eggs behind it, then while I was fixing a broken board under the porch, I found about twenty more! .....had to keep pulling them out of these little cracks in the porch, and I had no idea how long it had been there.

Either way, congratulations on a new layer! Never had a silkie but I hear they make great mothers. Maybe that's what she was thinking about.
