First Egg Countdown

Hi! This is my first post, although I have been browsing this site for months :) I have an EE and a Barnevelder who are 27 weeks old and a black silkie and a tan showgirl whom are 15 weeks old. My older ones are beyond ready, mature and old enough. I have been very frustrated! But yesterday I pulled out their poop tray (and I had not done so the day before) and found two splotches, I think one was a totally shell less egg and the others had a bit of a soft funky sac. So maybe one of them are getting started. They both squat, both sing the egg song- often, they have oyster shell available and they have the option of layer feed that I have placed higher than my younger ones can get to. I sometimes give them a handful of scratch, or a bit of cracked corn and dried mealworms. They do not currently free range because I want to be sure they know where eggs should go. So, I'm hoping they will start cranking putt some real eggs, like today! Right now would be good! LOL! I am away from home for the next few days though, so I'll probably miss it. I have told my sons they need to document whatever they find :)
~sigh~
I guess I'm a professional waiter here :-/

:welcome

It sounds like it will be soon! My EE was around 28 weeks, I think, when she first layed an egg. It was winter time, so lack of sunlight may have been a factor.
Can't wait to see egg pics from your hens!

Got it! First egg :) of course, I'm not home till later tonight, my son found it.he says it's small and light tan. I have an EE and a Barnevelder, not sure yet who laid it. But pretty sure it's not one of the 16 week old silkies, lol!

Cute!

We have a second egg today, I'm pretty sure it's the easter egger. Both egg are a light tan. I was really hoping for blue or green. Oh well, these are delightful too! But maybe I'll have to get a cream legbar...:D

Four eggs in four days! I'm so proud of my first girl who's started laying! They're still small, how long until they get bigger?

Awesome! I was also wondering how long it took for hte egg size to get bigger. I have noticed that my first chicken that started laying, its been little over a week and her eggs are almost "store" size now. Almost tho.

Pretty cool I think, 19 weeks old. I was supposed to get 6 ISA Browns, and through reading they lay at 16 weeks sometimes, but 1 was a Roo. ISA brown roos are white. So, I guess the lady a Rural King who had 3k chickens at the time and trying to get them to the correct place was wrong. I think I got Gold Sex Links. No big deal. Anyway, 3 days ago I get a call, we have an egg. 1 egg in the nesting box. Great!! first one. (By the way its truly a first, never had chickens before) I came home from golf, there are 2 more on the floor of their run. Great. The one in the nesting box looks great, dark brown, small size. The 2 on the run floor look light brown and chalky. Thinking I had 3 layers all starting the same day was awesome. Anyway, only 1 dark brown in the nesting box the last 2 days. Haven't figured that out, I am in the run feeding them at night drinking a beer so I know I didn't miss an earlier lay. So, today I find a large to extra large egg in the run under the feeder. Good, Now at least I think I have 2 layers. Question: where do you think the 2 chalky looking ones came from?

5 What I think are Gold Sex Links
