First Egg Countdown

Went to check on my girls this morning and I think I have 2 more squatters. I'm not surprised the one BR is squatting because I suspect her comb and wattles will be bright red soon but I noticed the chicken I originally thought was a BO but turns out she is probably an EE is squatting. Her comb and wattles are not even growing yet. Do you think she's just squatting for the heck of it or do you think when her comb comes in it'll come in fast?

There can be barred EEs, or it could be another barred breed. Maybe a barred Wyandotte? They have nice small combs, very winter hardy. Love to see a picture of her.

Got my first egg today. Not sure when it was laid but to my surprise it was in the nest box and not in the yard. Should definitely get one tomorrow again?

Congratulations! Almost all my hens drop their first egg from the roosts. That is a clever girl!

Lady cluck I don't thing she's a barred anything, she is completely white.

is she not going to have any wattles and should I expect her comb to get bigger or just turn red?

So I got my first egg today

The only problem is that it was obviously laid on there roosting area

So I have put a golf ball in the nesting boxes so hopefully that will give them the hint, if not I will put one of there freshly laid eggs in them

Yay for 1st egg darajosami but boo for it not surviving. I read that you shouldn't put their eggs in the nesting boxes as bait or they might eat them, maybe that's wrong though I'm still new at this.

Oh yes, looks like an EE! Sorry I misread, thought she had barring. The comb may get a wee bit more plump, but it won't get a whole lot bigger. Many EEs don't have wattles, and I think she won't either. She looks close to laying though. Hope you see a blue egg soon!

All my girls are almost there... But PJ (Pictured in "orange" below) has been spending a lot of time fluffing the nest boxes the last couple of days.
She even kicked the golf ball out of the nest this morning (accident or on purpose, I'm not sure...)

This pic was from about 2-3 weeks ago. Their faces and combs are noticably redder now.
