First Egg Countdown

I have 3 white leghorns that i hatched with my kindergarten class. They will be 17 weeks old tomorrow. Their combs are large and bright red but no squatting yet. Considering that it is the middle of summer, i am expecting eggs any day. My other chickens (easter egger, black australorp, and lavender orpington) came into maturity in the middle of winter and waited until about 25 weeks to start laying. I am really hoping it is sooner rather than later.

Wow. I have 5 girls. An Easter egger, 2 RIRs and 2 Barred Rocks. They are 19 weeks. No eggs yet. I need to go home and look today. I do check daily but your post got me excited. I'm ready for some eggs. Also, I've just been posting about layer feed. I've inadvertently bought layer feed. Came from a feed store out of town. Nothing wrong with it but I can't drive back to exchange it. If they start laying I can use it.

We got our first egg today we have 35 hens ranging from 18-21 weeks and we are so excited and we don't know which one it came from

We have 5 Red Sex Links who are now 16 weeks old. We got our first egg when they were 15 weeks 5 days and today we got two little brown eggs in the nesting box!! It is very exciting. Can't wait till they all start laying! We also have 5 year old leghorns. Here is a picture the day I pulled the first RSL egg from the box!

My girls on their 22 weeks. Any day now. They look healthy, soft feathers, unmolested by predators. We still have work to do on the entire set up. A change in jobs upset our work. But we will have a front yard added to their habitat. As I've said many times since loosing my first flock, no more free range. So it's up to me to give them as much room as possible. Anyway, I'm so excited waiting for the first egg.

Got my first pullet egg today (shown next to two full sized eggs) from one of my 13 young ones! Don't know which one, but it was laid right next to a golf ball in a nesting box. I would suspect my Speckled Sussex or New Hamshire Red, as they have both been squatting a lot lately. Or, one of my 8 BA's, as the color is right for them too. I will soon be giving eggs away again I think! The 4 hens have sustained my family while the 13 new ones were growing up. Good day!

From this years' Easter hatch-a-long batch, I have this Faverolles/Leghorn cross. She has the cheek fluff of the Faverolles and the curiosity of a Leghorn. She's been singing the egg song for the past few days, so it might be time to put the nest box into their enclosure. Here is what she looks like.

I have 6 White leghorns, 1 golden sex link & 1 Black Australorp all at 17 weeks of age, along with 2 light brahmas at 16 weeks of age. We are anxiously awaiting our first egg! Recently the leghorns combs and waffles have grown and darkened significantly.. any ideas of when we should expect some eggs??

Thanks!! :)
