Even a little bigger than I expected... about grocery store medium sized... maybe a tad smaller.

My Black Sex-link squatted for me yesterday!!! I didn't quite know what she was doing, because I was picking her up at the same time. She did a real one for me today, so as suggested by many BYC members, I gave her a back scratch, she ruffled her feathers, and went on her way!! Now the count down for eggs, begins!!

I got my first egg yesterday, it was very small but I was excited. I have 8 that were born the first week in March and I had just about given up on them. Here in Texas we have had 67 days of triple digit temps and we are having a brief cooling period of highs in the 80's. The first egg was laid the first cool day. She laid again today and I told the rest they should really be embarrassed now.

I have 5 pullets (between 16 & 20 weeks old). None are laying yet, but I do have one (my Welsummer who is 18 weeks) who is starting to make a strange noise - I am thinking the start of an egg song. Do they start practicing the song a few weeks before they lay? She is also growing her waffles and already very red in the face:) Can't wait. I also have a Barred Rock (20 weeks), an Ameraucana (18 weeks) and 2 Easter Eggers (16 weeks). The Welsummer seems the most ready so I am counting on her!
