I think it is because they have a insulated coop and lots of windows. Temps have been up and down here. Today it is going to get 55 degrees. They get baby'd with their tub of dirt, grains thrown around and alfalfa given too them periodically on top off their feeders full 24/7.Congrats! That is very good- especially for hens starting their laying season in the winter.
What breed are they, waiting is exciting, but even more when the eggs start.! Good Luck!I got my hen from the feed store around late September as a baby chick. She's getting closer to laying now. Waiting for my first egg! She has very small wattle right now, pale pink face and comb. Every day I look at her, she seems to change each morning.
Wow,, awesome,, how many pullets do you have? My small flock started on New Year's Eve. I have two production reds. 9 pullets all togther, and one roo. The most eggs I have gotten so far is 6 in a day.I got my first egg on New years day from my pullets born August 28. They are Red Stars. Went out today and I had a dozen little eggs in my roll out nest. I was surprised that some of them had started laying at a little over 4 months old.
Yes, love the squatting but my resident Roo doesn't like it when I reach down to pet them, Iguess he thinks I am infringing on his territory. HE went after my pants leg the other day when I did. I had to school him for 20 minuets making him move when i came towards him with my rooster stick. Too many little ones around here for me to have an aggressive Roo.MB
I have 44 RedStars. So apparently just a few have started to lay. It is funny, when you walk into their area so many of them start to squat when you walk amongst them. Sounds like our girls brought the New Year in with style.
WOW congrats on the chickens laying and all the new chicks. Your flock sounds like it is going to be great. When are your eggs due to hatch and Please please pleas post picsYea! After two months of no eggs....molting and daylight hours, I finally have two hens laying again! Last week we put a light with a timer in the coop. Not sure if it was the extra light or that they have finished molting, but I am soooo glad to have eggs again! Also have 4 new pullets about 16 weeks old who I hope will start laying next month! Two of those are EEs and I can't wait to see what color eggs they give me. I have hatching eggs in my incubator that are green egg laying frizzled naked neck chicks. Can't wait for them to hatch! I have a new Welsummer, too! Love all the different colored eggs! My goal is all the different colors!
is a Rhode
