Here is what a good "laying" comb looks like. I know this is a barred rock and yours is a Marans, but the combs are similar.

flowerbh, that is one pretty bird. Can't wait for my maran, claree to have that big comb.

Thanks Pele! I sure hope you're right! I was also thinking she'd be the first to lay. She was the first to get her comb and it has been very red for a long time now I'll have to let you know if you win the "jackpot"

Hahaa, Gifa was the victim of timing. Her girls were just starting to think about laying when winter hit, which made them say 'nevermind'.
