First Egg Countdown

So I have been waiting for my new pullet to start laying eggs. Today, I find this little tiny egg. Now I have to decide whether it is the new pullet egg or an Oooops egg from my Barred Rock who stopped laying a few weeks ago. My BR is only 18 months old and has only laid 4 eggs all month. I am actually hoping this is an oops egg because I really want a colored egg from my new chicken! Maybe, this is an oops egg and that she may start laying again soon. I will crack it open later and find out if there is a yolk in there or not. Will let you know. The photo is all washed out....actually have green, blue, pinkish, white and different shades of brown in the bowl of eggs. Love them!

I have finally had a hen squat for me. I was shocked and laughed because we had a rooster up till about 3 weeks ago. Only my 33 week only galls squat for me, I thought it was the funniest thing ever. I can't wait till my 17 weekers start squatting, but I don't know if they will because we have some younger roosters that are coming of age also.

PS Does anyone need a rooster before my husband makes them dinner.
When you have roosters, you will very rarely see them squat for you. They will squat for the rooster.
i finally got my first eggs yaaaay! i gave 2 BA and 2 BSL that are 22 weeks but dont know whose laying yet the eggs are tiny but they definitely laying i gave 4 white leghorns same age shouldnt b long
Congrats!
when can i xpect the eggs to get larger ? i have 2 australorps that hopefully give me large eggs
They will gradually get bigger over time (a couple of months). Then you may see a noticeable size difference after their first molt.
how long can u keep yard eggs refrigerated before u have to eat them ?
Washed, a couple of weeks. Unwashed a few months.

I start stockpiling my eggs in September to get me through winter when my girls molt without having to buy yucky store bought eggs.

Last night, after just whining about no eggs (and buying eggs) I went outside to count heads and put everyone to bed. While performing my nightly ritual, I spied a red ranger pullet rolling a little brown egg across the bottom shelf of the old workbench where they roost. She was pushing it towards me as if to say "Look what I did mom!" I will post a pic as soon as my phone let's me.
Congrats!

Ohhhhh, you're going for all those fun colored eggs! My girls are like that.....lots of different breeds and lots of different colored eggs!
After all the anticipation and fussing, I actually got my first egg today from my white leghorn, Snow!.

Yeah, I want the different colored eggs. Eventually, I would like to get a maran too. What kinds do you have?

My chickens are listed in my signature. I have also added some super blue egg layers I just hatched 2 weeks ago. So I will have white, different shades of greens, blues, browns and pinkish, terra cotta and dark chocolate brown! Next year I will work on turquoise and olive!

Congrats on your eggs. I weighed our 1st egg that we got today from our leghorn and it was 1.2 ounces. I have a little food scale and I'm going to track the weight each day to see the difference.

This was such a cute little mini egg today though.
