First Egg Countdown

My buff that squatted isn't sitting in nest box or any other of my girls all are 5 months old. But a few are squating and most have flaming combs and waddles. But none will sit in nest box is that common? I'm so excited for eggs!!!!!

My chicken are also new layers but they just lay the eggs were ever. When will they find there nesting box? An also I fond one chicken eating a egg today? I just put the on oster she'll an layer feed seeing they started laying a few weeks earlyer then I thought they would?

^^^you better stop the egg eater right away. Put a fake egg in with them. Once they develop a taste for eggs, the word spreads and your egg collecting is over. Gather the eggs immediately.

My 5 month old Buff Orpington squatted down when I walked up to her. How soon before she lays? Any ideas?

Within a couple of weeks.

My RIR has been squatting for 4 weeks now and has flame red comb and wattles but no eggs. She has been making noises like crazy which is driving me crazy but not getting an egg. Whereas one of Golden Comets never squatted and has been laying eggs for two weeks every morning between 7:30 and 8:00 AM without fail.

Sounds like they will give you some eggs soon. Most of my new layers never laid the first several eggs in a nest box. Instead, the garden, the run, behind trees, on the coop floor, or from the roost. They all got the hang of it eventually though! Post a pic when you get that egg :)
