Ok Ladies, I need some help. I have 23.5 week old EE's who still haven't laid an egg. This is my first time with chickens so I'm new to this. Can you tell by the waddles if they will lay soon?

#5 Midget

#6 Snow White

And just for show... my super sexy rooster "General"! He's so pretty!

Thanks Ladies and Gents!

Just saw that you are in Canada. I am in California and have been forewarned that my chickens that are the same age as yours may not lay until after winter. Mine are EE, Ameraucana mixes. We have mild winters here, so, not sure what happens for a harsher winter like in Manitoba. Tell you what, I will cross my fingers for you if you will do the same for me! C'mon, chickens!

Ha. Just saw the names of your chickens. I also have girls. The four year old named our chickens: Polka-dot, Sugar Cookie, Applejack (from my little pony) and Diamond, our now deceased rooster. My twelve year old daughter named our chickens: Glados, Chell and Wheatley from the video game "Portal" (I bet there aren't too many video game tie ins on this site) and Hermione, from, well, I am sure you know!

Ariel looks the furthest from laying to me. Are they squatting yet? All of yours have much redder combs than my EE and she's the same age, but she has squatted a couple times this week, not consistently though but I hope it means she's getting close. I've read a lot of comments along the way about many EEs waiting until closer to 30 weeks. Going by comb color I'd say yours are very close, especially if they're squatting (crouching down when you reach for them, as is the natural reaction to being mounted by a rooster). I've had 1 chicken lay 2 days after her first squat and one lay 3 weeks after. I've also had one girl squat once and then never again. My EE squatted twice yesterday but not since. Hope you get an egg soon!

There was a line up for the favourite laying spot this morning, lol.
I went in and found a white egg on one of the shelves, and saw one girl about to lay, when she was done, before she left, another hopped up, and laid right after her, with a pile more show a third got up there, and impatiently waited her turn only to take forever to lay, so I left, and found a leghorn had gone in after her, when I went back for the eggs, and she was waiting when I left. Got a total of 6 brown eggs and 2 white eggs today.

Ok, my girls, 12 of them are 21 and 22 weeks. Most have been squatting for a month now and almost all have very red Combs, and still no eggs... I have four Buffs, four EEs, two Speckled Sussex, and two Delewares... The waiting is SO hard!

Hi! The egg wait is killing me! I have nine girls, 4 Rhode Island reds, 4 barred rocks and one buff orphington. They are all 23 weeks old today. They are very nest box curious, moving the fake eggs around and making a nest inside. I had one girl squatting the other day! And all but two are bright red with big wattles and combs! It's driving me crazy!!!

Beautiful birds! You must be taking good care of them. It looks like your barred rocks are going to lay first.
