First Egg Countdown

Laid Nov. 3rd 2013
:)

Congrats!!!
My girls are 28 weeks and the first egg finally came!!! This is my first time keeping chickens so I'm so excited!!

From Lulu the Dominique

I caught her squatting a few days ago. She was pacing and fussing loudly this morning. I wasn't sure if she was mad because I had them penned up or if she was looking for a nesting site (they usually free range). She finally went into the coop. I went to check on her and she was on the roost talking up a storm and being fussy. I coaxed her off the roost and she went into the nest box herself and laid her egg. One of the other girls came and checked on her a few times.
Way to go Lulu!
Congrats!! I know how eggciting it is to FINALLY get your first egg (I'm new to chickens also)!!

Thank you both and congrats to your eggs as well!

I had already had breakfast but I couldn't wait to taste my first farm fresh egg (or to see what kind of weirdness might be inside). Despite it being a first egg, it was a normal egg-one yolk, no blood.
What struck me was the color of the yolk. It was bright orange! I almost thought maybe there was blood mixed in it but no, it was just a bright orange yolk.

I scrambled that little egg up and shared it with my hubby. I usually add some milk or cream when I scramble eggs, but this one tasted so creamy it didn't need it.

Wonder if she'll lay tomorrow?

I'm in again yay!!... 3 of my 7 16 week old girls have been squatting for the last 3 days now. So hopefully next week or the week after I will get to see those cute pullet eggs again.

Quote: That is how they are supposed to look! You'll never go back to store eggs again!

Finally an egg from one of my Brabanters! Thirty weeks! So excited for the other girls to follow her lead... Now, all are 31 weeks. I have another Brabanter and two Cochins.
