We got egg number 3 today! It was laid by Elvira, her first! My sweetie was out there and saw (and heard) Hephaestus on the edge of the nesting box crooning to her as she laid it (she is his favorite, after all). Too bad there is no picture of him in there with her. He really is turning out to be a sweet guy.

Yay congrats! What breed is Hephaestus? I would love a rooster like him!

Look what appeared in the nest box today! Our first day with all 4 girls laying was Saturday. We had 2 normal small eggs on Sunday, then this! I wonder if it is a double yolker? Quite the shiver to get the rest of it out at the end!

He's a Silver Spangled Hamburg. All of the chickens we have right now are that breed.

He's turned out to be the best! He had a few rocky moments, trying to figure out how to be "in charge" without being overly aggressive with the pullets, but he is only 27 weeks old right now, so I think he's doing very well. He definitely tries to have his way with them, but if anyone says no, he just moves on.

He spends all of his time finding food for them while they free range, keeping an eye on any one who strays off to far and staying alert for any threats. I'm so proud of him!

Wow! Very nice. That one that's a little wrinkled looks like it might have been a bit of a struggle!

This is Hephaestus, he's really very sweet. I wouldn't put him in this thread except he spends lots of time finding spots for the pullets to lay and supports them when they do!
