We got our 5 chicks last March. We watched them grow, let our kids and dogs get to know them, and just took care of them for about 5 months. We had o idea when they would lay, so we weren't anxiously waiting for that first egg. Then one day, I went out to give them their morning feed and water, and I decided to look in the back of the coop, were we have the doors behind the nesting boxed, and was I surprised to find FIVE EGGS! Not sure if they layed them all that one day, because I wasn't sure if anyone checked for eggs the day before, but was thrilled to find the
eggs nonetheless! Here is a picture of our first eggs back on 9/15/13!
I got my first egg last Friday, nearly 19 weeks old and it came from one of my smaller hens who I think is a leghorn (meyer hatchery-hatcher's choice). Although they are small eggs she's laid 3 in 4 days! Waiting for the other 10 to kick it in to gear.

I am still waiting on my first egg, and not very patiently, I might add. I am so excited to get the first egg and I want my girls to hurry up. I know I still have bit to go as they are only 19 and 1/2 weeks old, but I am so disappointed when I see that they have been in the nest box, but there are no eggs. Maybe soon! Maybe soon!
