First Egg Countdown

Not really. I got them from a local hardware store that wasn't clear on their age. 6-8 weeks is what they told me. This picture was a week ago but they haven't changed much. I switched them to layer feed. So there could be a 2 week discrepancy. Are you thinking more like 16 weeks?
I'm thinking 14-16 weeks. Were they fully feathered when you got them? Or did they have bare patches?

This morning while having a late cup of coffee around 10am one of my BO began wildly singing the "egg song". I was so excited, I thought the day was here - my first egg. No luck, I searched everywhere; the coop, nest boxes, out in the run. NO EGG. I think I saw her laughing as I walked away.

So exciting! Sounds like it will be soon!!

One of my "big girls" has all of a sudden gotten VERY red in the comb/wattles! She's only 15 weeks though. The other two that her age are not nearly as "mature"! Hoping just a few more weeks...no singing yet! LOL

I have a 17 week Barred Rock that is very red, while her sisters are pale and not as mature. Guess they all mature at a different rate. I just know that I am so excited waiting on eggs, that I can't hardly stand it!

I have 6 australorps. 19 weeks old. I check every morning and afternoon! Still nothing yet. They aren't very red in the face yet.

My two australorps are 20 weeks (give or take a week) and have been getting a bit noisy, but no egg yet. They were the first to mature of the breeds I have.

Your pullets may be a little younger than 19 weeks, but when they noticeably start maturing it seems to happen fairly fast. Waiting, waiting, waiting... What is that prayer about patience again?

I'm joining the first Egg countdown. I'm not really at close yet but I have held off joining as long as I can. I have 2 BR, 2 Isa Browns, 1 Amber white and 1 New Hampshire Red. I think they are 12-13 weeks old. The Isa Browns are the youngest by a week or so but I expected them to lay first just because they are supposed to lay early. But now I'm thinking my amber white might go first. She is the oldest and has the widest pelvic bone spread, a very roomy one finger whereas the others are a tight one finger. I'm not really sure what age amber whites start laying though. We don't have any big red combs or squatting yet, but again I have another month, give or take. But I'm joining the countdown anyway, dagnabit!
