First Egg Countdown

Went to let the girls out of the chicken house this morning and found an egg under a roost.
I'm wondering if it isn't my 2nd Barred Rock finally laying.
The other girls all lay in the nesting boxes in the afternoon.
I'm hopeful.

I have eight hens ranging in age from 21-23 weeks and I am impatiently waiting for our first egg. I thought it was a race between the Maran, and Wyandotte, but my two RIR's are getting redder combs and waddles. My Maran (Raven) received unwanted attention from the rooster yesterday, so maybe she won't be the first to lay. I have a camera set up to hopefully catch who the winner is....

I would love to convince my husband to put the trail cam in the coop so I can see if they are checking out the nest boxes, but he is too busy tracking deer with the trail cam! I have found indents in the shavings on the coop floor. Is that nesting behavior or just dust-bathing?

Finally!
I think this is from one of our "Easter Morning" California Whites.
It is small, but right in the best box where it is supposed to be! The girls and I were so excited.
Many more to follow, as the bulk of our hens are 2.5 weeks behind this girl!

Congrats! And in the nest! Hope the others learned where to lay theirs.
