It is a beautiful brown color. Here is a picture:
Next to our first egg. (notice the color difference).

2nd egg (left) and 1st egg (right)

The 2nd egg is also a little bigger then the 1st. I think one of the dark brahmas laid the first and one of the australorps laid the 2nd since one of my australorps (scramble) has been SO LOUD for the past few weeks expecially today and after I found the egg she hasn't said a peep!

Also, I have found both these eggs in the run, should I be worried about that? Or will they eventually start laying in the boxes?

Yeahhhh! Congrats on first and second eggs. And that second is spool pretty. I wonder if there is a way to save the shell for decoration (and for bragging rights), and still eat what is inside?

And still, the red and the black barred Layanoeggas continue to adhere to their rare breed standard. (Sigh)

Yep... just make a small hole in both ends and blow out the contents into a bowl. But be ready for a head ache from blowing hard. hehehe
I used to do easter eggs that way so I could save them from year to year and not have to keep dying more.

As we speak, I'm sitting in the garden waiting for an egg!!! My #2 lady (Pearl) is by herself in the coop/run. I let #1 out to free range in the "play pen" for a little while. Boy what a commotion Pearl made! OMG! I've never heard so much really LOUD cackeling and running back and forth!! Eventually she settled down and went into the coop. She stays for a while then ventures out, goes back in, back and forth. But each trip inside seems to last longer. She really has my curiosity piqued! Maybe she just needed some privacy? Keeping my fingers...

Oh wow, you all have such pretty first eggs! My girl is still teasing me with all her squatting. I haven't heard
the egg song yet and I'm not even sure if I will know it when I hear it anyway

So, my countdown continues!

Congrats to all getting eggs!

Still waiting! This is my Lucy girl at 19 weeks old today! I have 5 other Buff Orps that are really close behind her too.. one girl, Sandy, keeps making the loudest noise when I go outside! She seems to get louder everyday! Lucy has started singing her "song" about 2 weeks ago.. When do B/O's start laying? Do they lay just in the morning, or anytime? Thanks for your help!!!
