Got my first egg yesterday. 1 lonely little egg, but it's an egg. Hopefully this hens 4 sisters will step up to the plate soon! My barred rocks were 20 weeks old last tuesday, so I guess they are right on schedule.

I have 6 reds, 14 weeks old tomorrow. Had them since 3 days. Last weekend found a small egg in a nest box!! Our first egg!!!!!!!!!! Then yesterday another, a little smaller than the first but more uniform in color. Why so early? They are still young. One of my girls is handicap, stopped walking at 3 wks. So just to gauge her weight. I weighed the girls the other day to get an idea. She was 2.2 lbs, biggest was 2.10. Have not used the eggs to see if they are yolk less. Any ideas, as to why so early?

There have been other thread discussions here on BYC about early layers so you might want to do a search. All I can say is that you are going to be buried in eggs when these girls are in full production. Congratulations!

My chicken math gets me in trouble every time. Got these 2 11 week old pullets today from a friend - a breeder quality Barred Rock pullet and an olive egger pullet. So now I have more girls to wait on.

In my defense - I did get rid of 5 roosters so I think it was a good trade.

Great trade!! I'd rather wait for eggs than wait to see which ones are girls and which are boys

. On a side note, my two girls have been laying for the past couple days and the eggs look great so far!
