Well, 3 days ago our Cuckoo Marans squatted! Yay! Can't wait to see her dark brown eggs! I love collecting eggs every day!! Heidi seems to lay every 23.5 hours instead of 25 hours. She lays a little earlier every day! LOL She lays 1.9 oz very consistently with perfect shells.

This is about how old a lot of mine are. I have two RIR that are a bit older that I am waiting on. I already have nest boxes(3) in there, but one of them is in use by one of my older ones that decided to go broody on me and I don't have any place else to put here at this time. I hope the babies will be OK(due 9-21) I leave for a weekend vacation after that.

Well, here's my first official dozen!!! I have been saving them for almost a week and I think there are 4 different kinds! I have 3 bantam cochins and a bantan light brahma that I think laid these pretty little things! Now I'm waiting for my little black Silkie, my sweet little Mille Fleur, and last but certainly not least Mumbles & Peanut (youngest cochins!) I agree with what was said earlier...collecting eggs is like Christmas every day!

What I like about this thread and this website is that I know I am not alone in how I feel...even though I think it feels like an Easter egg hunt every day, but the feelings kinda resemble the giddy feelings one gets at Christmas.

I know one of the girls is laying, maybe two of them, however we seem to have some of the others investigating the nesting boxes. At least half of the girls are squatting for me. My Buff Orpington is not only squatting but majorly twitching he tail feathers to the side if I scratch to low on her back. Maybe she is the other layer, if so she is kinda young 20 weeks today. I thought they started laying later than that.

This never gets old, that's for sure.

Congratulations to everyone receiving their first gifts (eggs) from their girls!

I have 3 bantie hens that were hatched in late March. Tiny has always been the runt so I haven't been expecting her to lay yet and with the long hot summer we had in Texas, only the mille fleur has been laying...or so I thought. The sebright has been laying in a corner of the garage. Found 3 there today and she chased me out so she could lay another one. Sneaky girl.

So, question, how do I get her to go to the coop which has lovely nesting boxes with the other girls?

our Brownie bird, the EE, 3 days short of being 5 months old, FINALLY laid her first egg about 20 minutes ago!!!!! It`s a bit small and a light blue in color.., sooo pretty. now we`re waitin for Red (RIR) and Shadow (BSL) to start. Funniest thing though.. for the last 2 days she has been doing this “Eagle pose” when I go out to check the pen, so I give her a good back scratchin and she gets all worked up and then she shakes it off and goes about her day! This morning when I came back in I told wifey it wouldn't be long cuz I thought her hormones were kickin in, and the next thing.... Brownie went to the laying box, made her a nice hole in the bedding and spit out this nice little blue EGG!!! Now wife is calling me Mr. Rooster!.... hey, it got me an EGG right? ne way IT'S AWESOME.
